get your head straight, lady

by Sean Maher

the jewlery she wears
none of it has a story
she was not given a cross on a chain
by her now-dead grandmother
none of the rings
on her crippled fingers
were ever passed to her in a
glass of
champagne
and her earings
never belonged to anybody whose
name
anyone remembers

actually
most of what
she is
wearing
was stolen
from married men looking
for a
piece of ass
or disgusting rich relatives
she didn't know who were
unfortunate enough to
invite her to a dinner or a luncheon
some years ago

it is a two way street
though

nobody will remember she ever
wore it

To the top.

Back.
