Writing Skills

The importance of good writing can not be stressed enough and throughout my experience in the MPA program, I have consistently been challenged to improve and refine my writing skills. My writing has improved as well as my confidence in my writing abilities. I feel more comfortable with the writing process no matter the format. Whether I am arguing a point or explaining the steps necessary to complete a task, I articulate my thoughts with clarity.

The MPA program emphasizes a great deal of writing in a wide range of courses-across different disciplines. My writing efforts are broad in scope ranging from long research papers to short memoranda, case study analyses to tips for motivating employees. An example of my research writing is my research methods paper on survey data I collected regarding next generation nonprofit leadership, and an example of my memo writing is from an organizational behavior class in which I wrote on the Columbia Shuttle disaster.
