Knowledge of Public Administration
Having received my undergraduate degree in sociology, I had very little understanding of American government in our society or public administration. The MPA program provided me a comprehensive understanding of the importance of public administration in government and society, the theories that guide administration, and the tasks and responsibilites of public administrators.
The program has also exposed me to the variety of perspectives and skills that are important for public administrators to mange the day-to-day challenges faced in the work place such a budgeting expertise, a knowledge of microeconomics and human resources, an understanding of public policy and implementation, and analyzing statistics.
Through my elective classes, I have enhanced my knowledge of community and economic development, nongovernmental organizations, and the role of nonprofits' in our society, and intergovernmental relations. I learned the complexities of intergovernmental relations and acquired comprehensive insight into the complicated and often problematic process of economic revitalization and development.
