AFLAC in Japan (2009)This was the final assignment for Global Strategic Management, the strategy course in my undergraduate concentration area. It discusses the AFLAC, Inc. business model and strategic factors as to whether or not its gains in the Japanese market will be sustainable. You may view the report by clicking here. Web Design (2008-2009)In my work with San Francisco State's Indies Project, I was responsible for designing, coding, and editing of its website starting in October of two-thousand seven. In preparing the Indies Project website I needed to account for a file directory system that would be able to accomodate for what could be a decades long project with several expeditions per year while keeping the underlying structure simple enough that it could be modified with relative ease by my successors as web designer. In the upcoming months, we intend to establish a wiki-based archive to hold our findings and discussion as we start to recieve material from the field. Reigel's Introduction to Traditional Asian Cultures course in the fall of two-thousand four. This short essay is a quick retelling of the governmental changes that happend during the decline of the warring states period and the rise of Qin Shi Huang Di (the first Emperor of China). To facilitate this trip in 2003, I was soley responsible for making all arrangements for lodging, creating the itinerary, providing a budget, and to demonstrate the language skills I had learned. In the time I was there, I was charged with almost exclusively operating in Japanese. While there were a few difficulties due to my lacking vocabulary of kanji characters, such as not realizing the menu on our first night was mostly fish, the end result was quite satisfactory as I had managed to translate a good portion of a docent tour at Nijou-jinya for my father with the help of my dictionary and guide book. A year after my return to the United States I sat my third term of Japanese, at the conclusion of which the report below was written and presented, in Japanese, as a ten minute oral presentation for my final project. The transcript is enclosed below. PDF file pending.
