Abstract:
Amphibian populations are in decline worldwide with many cases remaining ambiguous. However, habitat loss has been clearly implicated as a primary cause for these declines. Since the 1830's, approximately 12 % of the Napa County landscape has been converted to vineyards and the impact on amphibian species is unclear. This study will determine which amphibian species have persisted despite this land conversion. An intermediate intensity, visual encounter study will be conducted in Napa County in both landscape and vineyard areas. Survey results will be compared to historical records. This information will provide a basis for further studies on the ecology and conservation biology of the Napa County area.
