Personal Statement
"Do not go where the path may lead;
go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

After completing my
bachelor's degree of Political Studies at
Pitzer College in
2003, I had only begun to learn about the field of
public service. Soon after graduation, I moved to
I was torn between academia,
advocacy, research, and electoral politics and had no
idea where to go next. As I found myself in the foggy
abyss of my undecided future, I decided to pursue a
Master’s Degree of Public Administration. It was my hope
that through gaining in depth knowledge of public
management, at the city, state, federal and nonprofit
levels, I would gain the tools necessary to place myself
in the proper niche.
While in the Public
Administration program, I have gained not only a
theoretical understanding of the components of public
service work, but practical experience to carry such
tasks out. I have gained an understanding of personnel
management, national and local budgeting strategies,
research methodology, statistical analysis and program
evaluation, as well as a more detailed understanding of
nonprofit management, and resource acquisition and
allocation.
Although I am enjoying my
experience with the Federal Aviation Administration,
where I
currently work, I am still learning where my interests
lay; I have numerous passions , particularly personal
fitness and nutrition, and after my 3rd year
of half-marathon training, I am open to the idea that
one day, I may merge these passions together. Either
way, I am open to the journey.
