Tara C. DennehyAbout me:I'm not very good at writing the personal stuff; if you've ever read a "personal statement" of mine, I apologize. I am a second-year grad student in psych and I absolutely love it more than anything in the world. However, 100% academics 24/7 can be a little crazy-making, so I've been making an attempt to have at least a little bit of a life (we'll see how it goes ;) ). I currently live in San Francisco at SF State. I work as a supervisor-type for the resident advisors in the freshman dorms, a position which entails that I live on-campus. With work, school, and home all in the same approximate location, it became very necessary that I have some pursuits that can take me away from campus. As some of my favorite hobbies (travel, outrigger canoeing/kayaking, scuba diving) can be exorbitantly expensive I decided that I needed something that I could do within walking distance from home. I have always loved photography, but was discouraged from it when I was younger due the cost of developing film. However, with the advent of digital technology, photography became a much more accessible hobby. I am currently shooting with a Canon Digital Rebel XSi, which is the source of all images used on my sites. Within the past few months, however, I have also begun to dabble in film (again), using medium format film in a plastic Holga camera. The erratic quality and artistic unpredictability of these film images is very intriguing to me and I hope to post some of my film photos once I have figured out the practical details of developing and converting my film images to digital. The other artistic outlet that I occasionally indulge in is poetry, but let's just say that my muse for poems is much more fickle than my one for photos. Although I have been writing poetry off-and-on since grade school, there are fewer poems that I would care to share. However, if you consider poetry to be more of a ruminative pursuit, and photography (the way I do it) to be more celebratory, perhaps it is a good thing that my photos outnumber my poems! Aside from what I do, who I am is really best conveyed in-person. This site is really just a sampling of some of my activities, intended to give a glimpse of the rest of the human behind my academic activities. . . . . For fun, I am currently reading the Thursday Next novels by Jasper Fforde. For much geekier fun, I am (re-) reading Vision by David Marr and Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely. |
