Business 870 The Wise Manager:
Managing Yourself and Others Wisely
Dr. Tony Bushman
Preparing for the End of the Semester
Course Content and Philosophy
This course is a person centered course in contrast to being an organization centered course. The assumption is that by making yourself a high priority, the organization will benefit. We want to facilitate a more humane life and encourage growth of the human spirit.
The course will be designed by students through selecting topics from a menu depending upon the student's needs and interests. In so doing, we will model consensus building and Rogerian empowerment. While each major section of the course already defined, the specific questions covered in the sections will vary with different classes depending on students interests and the importance of the concepts.
This course is about you and about your commitment to grow. We will share what we learn. It can be conceptual and abstract, but bring it to a concrete personal level of understanding. Keep the focus on you. Don't focus "out there" or about things other people "should" do. Keep it Here and Now and what I Now am going to do about Tomorrow. Keep your commitments to grow small, simple, strong, pragmatic, personal, and powerful. Be thinking about the question: " In what ways do the ideas discussed today influence my personal philosophy of transformative management in my professional and personal life." Do not expect instant enlightenment- this is a cumulative process.
