Mission Statement
Through the encouragement of the San Francisco State
University Nursing Students' Association and SFSU faculty, a group of SFSU
nursing students who are a part of the first pioneering BSN program held at
Canada Community College in Redwood City, California, established its own
NSA chapter called the Sequoia Nursing Students' Association on Monday, February 14, 2005. This organization's main
goal is to support student nurses in their academic pursuit and professional
development.
The function of Sequoia NSA include the following:

Advocate for student nurses to achieve their goals
to successful become licensed professional Registered Nurses |
 |
Serve as a liaison between faculty and nursing
students regarding class schedules, ATI testing, etc |
 |
Promote a collaborative relationship with other
nursing organizations such as: NSNA, CNSA, etc. |
 |
Serve as an active constituent with the National
Nursing Student Association |
 |
Establish and sustain an active student nursing participation in community
affairs |
 |
Organize opportunities for the improvement of health care
through volunteer and social
activities |
 |
Encourage recruitment efforts, student activities,
and educational opportunities |
Goals
 | Short term: establish Sequoia NSA as an organization, recruit members,
become an official chapter at the national/state level, continue to
provide pertinent information to Sequoia Nursing Students |
 | Long term: graduation plans |

Key Milestones
 | January 19, 2005 - Sequoia NSA officers held first meeting |
 | February 12, 2005 - SFSU NSA officers held leadership orientation meeting for
Sequoia NSA and new SFSU NSA officers. |
 | February 14, 2005 - Sequoia NSA registered with Office of Student
Programs/Leadership Development (OSPLD) and became a recognized organization at SFSU. |
 | March 18, 2005 - Sequoia NSA recognized as an organization at Canada
College |
 | March 19, 2004 - Sequoia NSA published it's first website |
