The most effective attributes (characteristics) of the instructor's teaching were:

Deep knowledge of the subject

Sengupta brings current events and real life examples into class. Far better than any book can provide

Preparation

Vast knowledge and experience in the technology industry. Helpful, friendly, and intelligent. Organized lectures with PPTs from the text. Liked in the inclass activities.

Professor's charisma

Engaging, encouraged discussions and participation, very knowledgeable, provides great examples.

Expertise.

The classes and discussions are very engaging and a lot of fun. The midterm is one of the most wonderful assignments I've had to do till date.

He provided a number of examples which helped me grasp the concepts easily.

Design of Syllabus and field visits and guest speaker

strict

Those attributes of this instructor's teaching which I think should be improved are:

nothing, keep up the good work Sengupta.

More structured lectures that don't just jump around on PPT slides. I had a hard time understanding what was important and what were fun facts. More drafts and checkpoints with the final report.

Not very open to differing viewpoints

Grading consistency.

His grading methods are not consistent. He might give you an A for one and an A- for another one written in the same fashion.

The project is only 20% of weight of the total grade but it needs a lot more work than that.

The course could be improved by:

More comfortable seating

shorten the chapters (it's alot of reading).

Memos were frustrating because it was not clear what was expected and how to address the problems in 1 page.

Nothing! It was perfect.

A few more field trips, take advantage of the area we live in.

more lecture on subject, less time on class discussion.

More live speakers.

Having more guest speakers and proper distribution of weights for the different components.
