SDA 2008-2009

President

Briza York

My name is Briza York and I'm a third year Dietetics student at SFSU. I have been part of the SDA since my second semester here. I'll
be graduating next Spring (2010). I'm an active member of SHAC (Student Health Advisory Committee) here on campus. I volunteer at
Laguna Honda Hospital and work at the Department of Education, Nutrition Services Division during the summers. I'm a strong leader who
encourages teamwork and love to be active in my community. As president of the SDA, I look forward to making the SDA a community
of Dietetics students who are able to become more involved in SFSU and the greater SF community by adding weekly or bi-weekly outreach
programs. I believe that the SDA should have weekly meetings, so that goals can be accomplished and so that the club community can grow
and flourish. My goal would be to have a meeting at two different times (one week at one time and the second at a differrent time...) so that
we can try to accomodate more people, even though not everyone could attend both meeting times, If we can find a single meeting time that
everyone, or most, can attend, then we would just have one meeting time. Also, I would love for the SDA to network with other clubs.

Succeeding: Mei-Li Sjoquist for 2008-2009

Vice President

Kathrin Spoeck

My name is Kathrin Spoeck and I have been living in San Francisco for six years after having moved here from Austria. Before I found my
"true calling," I worked in the interior design industry, but quickly realized that self-fulfillment lay in a field work that focuses on helping others.
After researching the field of dietetics for almost a year, I decided that it was the profession that I wanted to pursue for the rest of my life.
With alarming numbers of adults and children becoming obese and suffering from the consequences of chronic disease, teaching people about
nutrition will be my lifelong endeavor. My time volunteering at the VA Medical Center, the SF General Hospital, and the PEACH program
has provided me with the skills and experience necessary to continue the work of creating a healthier society. As an SDA officer, I would
work actively to educate people about living a healthy lifestyle by organizing outreach events, and for my colleagues, I would invite guest
speakers to give us the chance to learn about different areas and opportunities in the field of dietetics. Finally, I would strive to bring dietetics
students together and create a strong support network.

Succeeding: Lulu Fulda for 2008-2009

Treasurer and Membership Chair

Myrna Gharib

My name is Myrna Gharib and I am interested in becoming an officer of the SDA because I want to be more involved in the dietetics
field. I am currently a PEACH and  I volunteer at the VA Medical Center, but I still feel that I need some more volunteering and
involvement on my plate. I have wanted to become involved in the SDA ever since I transferred to SFSU last semester, but I always
felt I missed out on the meetings because I either had class or never heard about them. If I become an officer I would like to make
more consistent meetings at different times that suit the needs of most of the memebers.

Succeeding: Becca Miller for 2008-2009

Marketing and Fundraising Coordinator

Elena Vida

My name is Elena Vida and nutrition has been my passion for many years. I am interested in Clinical Dietetics, and someday I would
love to become a Pediatric Dietitian; though I am considering prevention and education. I have started my nutrition education in Romania,
my home country, and in August of 2006 I transferred to SFSU in order to complete my degree. Being a Dietetics student at SFSU has
been one of the most amazing experiences of my life so far, and opened tremendous opportunities for my future career. Although it has
taken me awhile to pursue my degree (I still have three semesters to complete before graduation), I strongly believe that the journey is
the reward. During the last three years spent in San Francisco, I had the chance to interact with different people, different cultures and
cuisines, and broaden my nutrition knowledge. I also had the great opportunity to be a part of the PEACH program for the last two years
and volunteer at the VA Medical Center for one year. I am dedicated to nurtition, and I am an organized, responsible, reliable person. I
think that these attributes accumulated with my nutrition knowledge and experience would make me a successful SDA officer. Because
I love sharing my experience with other people, I think that this will be beneficial for the students who are new to the DPD program and
who need guidance. Through being an SDA officer I will improve my leadership and organization skills. In addition to my passion for
nutrition, I love my husband and my family life, I adore the ballroom dance classes that we are taking together, and I enjoy the time spent
with the people that I care about.

Succeeding: Jaime Dollaga for 2008-2009

Website Coordinator

Alexandrea Hickey

Alexandrea Hickey is currently attending SFSU for her post baccalaureate in Dietetics and a certificate in Holistic Health. This will be her
second year holding the position for web-site coordinator within the SDA. She graduated from UC Santa Cruz in 2005 with a degree in
Sociology and Latin American Latino Studies. She currently works at Whole Foods Market where she can apply her passion for optimum
health through nutrition and organic foods. This is her second semester as a volunteer Peer Educator Advocating Campus Health (PEACH)
at the student health center and she also volunteer at the Holistic Health Learning Center. Her specific points of interest are Holistic Health,
Vegetarian Diets, Sustainable Organic Foods and Pediatric care.

Also held position in 2008-2009

Activities Coordinator

Angela Fong

My name is Angie Fong and I've been attending SFSU since my freshman year of college. In the beginning, I didn't realize how big of a role
nutrition would play in my life until I discovered that my own health was a result of my own decisions and entirely up to me. In addition to
my class schedule, I volunteer at PEACH (in the Student Health Center) and the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Hospital. Becoming an RD
will help me fulfill my greatest passion- to share with others the benefits of eating well and living out the healthy lives they truly deserve. Because
everyone I've met in the DPD program has been so inspiring to me, I want to be an SDA officer to give something back to those who share the
same passion, and offer experiences that will help them in their intersnhips and their careers. As an officer, I have a lot to share and even more to
learn. I am personally committed to contribute all I can to the SDA, because you will be the ones to make a difference in out community.

ADA/BADA Representative

Carol Dunn

Hello, my name is Carol Dunn and I'm a dietetics student who will be graduating in Spring 2010. I have been a member of
the SDA since Fall 2008. I am interested in applying for an officer postion because I believe that it will be an excellent
experience and that I will learn valuable leadership skills. I also believe that I am capable of accomplishing what I set my
mind to and that it will be interesting working with different people.
