Presentation Skills
As I move up in my profession, I will probably have to make presentations to report findings, analyses, the state of an organization, etc. Presentation skills are difficult to master; except for a few people who are naturally talented at public-speaking and presentation skills, most people are afraid of presenting. Even though I’ve given presentations in both my undergraduate program, and at my job in a planning department, I could always improve my presentation skills. The Public Administration program, with the abundance of presentations required for all classes, has provided me an opportunity to practice giving presentations and receive feedback on my presentations. Now I feel more confident in giving presentations, which will be required as I move up in the professional world. Along with good writing skills, a city planner needs good presentation skills, as a major responsibility is giving presentations to different groups, such as a commission or a city council.
In addition, the Public
Administration program has taught me how to use Microsoft PowerPoint,
an
important computer program that acts as a visual aid that enhances a
presentation, so in the future, using Microsoft PowerPoint and my
improved
presentation skills, I will be able to present creative, clear, and
effective
presentations.
