Wright, Sewall (1889-1988)


 

Geneticist, born in Melrose, MA. He studied at Harvard, worked at the US Department of Agriculture (1915-25), where he conducted experimental work in animal genetics, then became professor at the universities of Chicago (1926-54) and Wisconsin (1955-60). He is one of the founders of population genetics, but is best remembered for his concept of genetic drift, termed the Sewall Wright effect.
