After a tremendous group effort put together by Jeanne, James,
Shelly, Christine, Cindy, Karen, and myself, our group presentation went well. All the hard work that was made in putting this presentation together was shown. The parts, starting from introduction to conclusion, flowed smoothly. Each transition was made proper and was well organized. Everyone spoke loud and clear, made proper eye contact, and looked great overall! The only flaw was that the presentation went longer than expected. There were a few acknowledgements that I wanted to make, but time ran out. So, I'll make them here.
Thank Professor Woo for treating some of us to Vietnamese cuisine at the Anh Hong Restaurant on Geary/Hyde (exact location 808 Geary). And special thank you to Professor Chung, professor of Vietnamese American classes in the Asian American Studies Department here at San Francisco State who gave us some insight on how to approach our research on this community.
Lastly, I hope our audience was not as bored as they looked. We hoped we had achieved what we wanted to say about the Vietnamese Americans-they have had much success in building communities, despite the hardships they endured from a war-torn country.
After a 20 minute delay in our presentation, our group gave a
tremendous comeback effort to keep our composure and to complete the rest of the presentation. We all understood the consequences of having to work with equipment that we were not familiar with, but we took the chance and went ahead to present with the Powerpoint. I think we should at least be given credit for trying to be creative and try something new.
With the remaining half hour for presentation, we managed to cover the majority of the parts we intended to present. In spite of the fact that some parts were taken out because of time contraints, overall the intentions of our research were presented. And although,
parts were rushed, especially the conclusion, the presentation was
overall conducted in a mature manner.
As far as style of presentation, our members spoke with little reference to notes and preference was given to make eye contact with the audience. Level of speaking was okay, but some members seemed to talk a little too softly and because of time, speech was rushed.
Overall, we needed much improvement with the practice of video aid and the timing of presentation. The use of visual aids to the audience was good (i.e. showing of our pictures and hand-out of the
menu). Again, we apologize for the unpreparedness of our visual presentation.
