The setting and conflict of my stories
My stories are set in modern day America and include some surrealistic and supernatural elements. They center around characters going through an inner crisis where they must confront a personal problem and make an internal change to overcome it or fail to recognize the need to change and are thus defeated by their inablity to be introspective. I also write character conflict fiction and even some romantic fiction. There is a lot of supernatural and surrealistic elements in the stories but that's just window dressing for the story.
What my characters are looking for
I typically write stories about young men trying to find their path in life or trying to assert themselves in the world. I suppose I gravitate towards these stories because that's where I'm typically at in my life! I'm only twenty-five after all!
The antagonists and teachers in my stories
The supernatural and surrealistic elements center around human conflicts with supernatural beings and elemental beings. The Kami, elemental and environmental spirits, and the Thought'se'jin, ghost-like humans, act as antagonists and teachers in my stories. They challenge, educate and help my protagonists look inside themselves for the answers they are looking for.
Goals and about my first novel
My goal is to one day get published and possibly even become a full time writer. My first novel centers around a boy frustrated with the directionless and meaninglessness to his life. Before attempting to take his own life, he discovers he can alter reality itself. Even after making this discovering he's not sure if life is still worth living.
