Learning goals sub-committee’s first report.  Perttula also presented assessment ideas.


NOVEMBER 2003
CSU Taskforce on assessment tests meeting in Long Beach, Ca.  November 7, 2003.  Perttula attended the all-day meeting on business school assessment.

Capstone course instructors’ (BUS 690) meeting, Nov. 5, 2003.  Perttula introduced the ideas of assurance of learning and assessment tools.

Graduate Curriculum Committee met to discuss assessment and proposed learning goals for the MBA Program, November 7, 2003

Workshop on scoring rubrics for measurement of learning, Nov. 7, 2003.  Three business faculty attended the workshop on the SFSU campus.  They later distributed the handout to business faculty involved in assessment planning.

Accounting Dept. meeting on Nov. 12, 2003.  Perttula introduced assurance of learning, learning goals, and assessment tools to the accounting faculty.

Undergraduate Curriculum Committee meeting on Nov. 12, 2003.  Perttula and Connie Marie Gaglio discussed learning goals, the mission statement, and assessment with the committee.

CoB Assessment Committee meeting on Nov. 19, 2003.  Five members representing five departments met and discussed the assessment process at the college level and department level.

IS faculty and others met with representative from our Center for the Enhancement of Teaching CET to learn about rubrics.  Three rubrics recently developed by IS faculty were compared and discussed.  Nov. 21, 2003.

Undergraduate Curriculum Committee discussed a proposed list of learning goals and their presentation to the full faculty, December 10

JANUARY  2004
College of Business Faculty Development meeting on January 22.  Perttula presented an overview of assessment including the progress that the faculty committees and individuals have made toward the new emphasis on student learning goals and measurement of the learning goals.

College of Business Faculty meeting on January 26.  The Dean presented a summary of the assessment plan of the College to the faculty.  He emphasized that the key committees working on learning goals were the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and the Graduate Curriculum Committee.


FEBRUARY  2004
College of Business Assessment Committee met on February 11 to discuss the draft learning goals for the BS and the MBA, techniques for course embedded assessment, and the SFSU department specific learning goals requirements.

Undergraduate Curriculum Committee met to discuss its draft of learning goals and some amendments offered by the faculty.  The Committee concluded the meeting by approving a set of learning goals for the undergraduate bachelor of science degree.  February 12

Graduate Curriculum Committee met to discuss learning goals.  The format, number, and purpose of learning goals for the three graduate degree programs were reviewed and discussed (MBA, MSBA, AMBA).  The Committee will work on reducing the current number of 20 goals to a more manageable number such as four to ten goals.  February 20.


MARCH  2004
Graduate Curriculum Committee discussed a revised set of learning goals for the MBA program. A draft of the MSBA goals was presented and discussed.  March 12.


APRIL  2004
Graduate Curriculum Committee discussed and revised learning goals and voted to adopt the set of goals agreed upon for the MBA program.  The learning goals for the MSBA and AMBA are still being formulated.  April 2.

Undergraduate Curriculum Committee met to discuss the design and content of the Learning Goals Matrix for the undergraduate core courses and the course review process.  Emphasis was placed on how the core course related to the Goals.  April 13.

Graduate Curriculum Committee discussed how the 700 and 800 level courses contributed to the Learning Goals.  Department representatives are to review their 700 and 800 level courses and indicate on a Matrix to what extent their courses relate to the Goals.  April 23.


MAY 2004
Graduate Curriculum Committee discussed the process and format for linking courses to the learning goals.  May 7.

Undergraduate Curriculum Committee discussed the format of reports on how the core courses related to the learning goals of the B.S. degree. May 13.


AUGUST 2004
Bill Perttula, assessment coordinator, briefs the entire faculty on the progress of the College in setting learning goals and developing and using assessment techniques. The faculty are reminded of the assessment website and its contents.  August 23.

OCTOBER 2004
University Writing Taskforce meets on October 12.  John McWilliams, former chair of business undergraduate curriculum committee, attends as COB representative.  The business learning goal of  Students demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills will be addressed as the COB seeks help from experts from across the campus.
