Writing Skills
"The aim of education is
to enable individuals to continue their education ...
(and) the object and reward of learning is continued
capacity for growth." – John Dewey

Public administrators must be able to
write effectively. I have always considered myself
a capable writer, but recognize the value of building
upon my strengths. The MPA program has afforded me the
opportunity to capitalize upon this strength by honing
my skills through a variety of written assignments. The
program places high value on clear, concise, analytical
writing.
Through use of the case study
methodology the program taught me how to apply theory to
real life public administration problems while providing the opportunity to think creatively and analytically in
presenting recommendations. As such, I have
learned to broaden my analytical framework by
synthesizing numerous theories in a discussion of public
problems and their solutions.
Linked below are 4 examples of Case
Study analyses and a theoretical paper on leadership
styles I wrote over the course of my MPA career.
