"Genes are often invoked to account for why high blood pressure is so common among African-Americans. Yet the reates are low in Africans. This discrepancy demonstrates how genes and the environment interact." The article explains that for years the "gene" assumption was taken for granted without challenge. The effects of racism complicate any study of how a disease such as hypertension affects minority groups...SN

One project described was a holographic lathe whereby a user could "carve out" a design into a rotating holographic cylinder using force feedback. • visit site I found an article in the journal of the American Acoustics Association relating to spacial placement of sound using stereo. The article revealed that there is actually a slight perception of volume increase in the left ear. I found this interesting to my work in sound art. -djd
