Personal Statement

Monika

From an early age, I have always felt that helping people was the right thing to do. When I got older, it made sense for me to find a career in which I would serve the public. I am motivated by seeing the results of my efforts, which hopefully result in positive changes.  I am fortunate to be where I am today as an Enforcement Officer in the Superfund Division with the Environmental Protection Agency.

In the spring of 2006, I graduated, cum laude, from Sonoma State University with a B.A. in Environmental Studies, and a minor in Geography. During my four years of college, I had various internship opportunities, including internships with the Climate Protection Campaign, World Center for Birds of Prey, and the Environmental Protection Agency.  I also participated in the National Student Exchange Program, studying Geographic Information Systems, at Boise State University. By getting through the academic and mental challenges offered by these ventures, they have reaffirmed my calling to public service.

Fall 2006 marked the beginning of another chapter in my life with my commencement of the Master’s Program in Public Administration at San Francisco State. After three years and the accomplishment of other milestones in between, including getting married, I have finally completed the program. The MPA program at San Francisco State has allowed me to develop both personally and academically, and also broaden my horizon by providing me with the tools and resources to be an effective public administrator.
