Final Events & Graduation April 17 2009
I’d like to get everyone up to date on what’s happening with the MA through the end of the semester.
Wednesday, April 22 at 5:30pm, the SFAMA is having a post-ad:tech Mixer at Jillian’s in the Metreon, sponsored by Aquent Marketing Staffing. Cover is $10 and the event goes until 9:30pm. Don’t miss this chance to catch up and see what’s hot in the advertising industry and cover what’s going on at the conference.
Wednesday, April 29 from 1:00 – 2:00pm in BUS 218 we are co-hosting an event with Kaplan Test Prep titled the Get Ready for Grad School Workshop. This event is open to all students with the information being broad enough that the event won’t just revolve around GMAT prep. We’ll get an overview of personal statements, letters of recommendation and test scores and how they are considered in the admissions process. Check out who's attending on Facebook.
The Marketing Graduation Ceremony invites were sent out in March just before spring break and if you have not received the application, please email us ASAP. Payments can only be made via check with a completed application turned in to SCI 300 by 5:00pm May 1. We are running an event guestlist so there will be no physical tickets. The ceremony will be held Thursday May 21, 2009 5:00 - 7:00pm at the Towers Conference Center. Guests may arrive as early as 4:00pm and seating is on a first come first served basis. We advise to park at Lot 19/20 on State Drive (off Lake Merced Blvd.) just across from the Towers Conference Center in which permits are $1 per hour or $5 for the entire day; please click here for a map. At 4:15pm in Malcolm X Plaza, the marketing graduates may take an optional class photo in which prints will be available for purchase on the photographer’s website. Also, the photographer will be taking pictures during and after the ceremony so graduates will have plenty of opportunities to have photos taken with family and friends. Graduates, please wear your cap and gown or formal attire. Also, we have several openings for student ushers and volunteers, so please email Maria, our VP of Membership, if you’re interested. You can also check out who's participating on the event listing on Facebook.
I hope this clears up some questions you may have. Keep up the good work, students!

Post Spring Break Update April 4 2009
Hey members, I see we've gone a little while without an update so let me fill you in on two upcoming events we're hosting.
Tomorrow, Sunday, April 5, we're having a Beach Cleanup at Ocean Beach in conjunction with the Surfrider Foundation. We'll gather close to Noriega Street at Stairway 17 and there will be two shifts, one beginning at 8:00am and another at 10:00am. Plenty of refreshments will be provided for volunteers. For additional information, please see our Facebook event listing.
Monday, April 6 6:15pm to 7:30pm in BUS 202 we're having a members meeting with two guest speakers from USA Today. Our first guest is Kristine Newell, a Senior Account Executive in online advertising and then we'll have Elizabeth Smith, an online Account Manager, speak to us on their career path, the shift and major trends in advertising and share advice with students. Don't miss this excellent opportunity to network with two extremely successful professionals in advertising. This event also has a Facebook event page, so please RSVP there.

Event Updates March 9 2009
Our Bowling Night Social was a huge hit! We had about 20 students altogether over four lanes at Serra Bowl; definitely the largest student group there for College Fest. We have a nice group photo uploaded on our Facebook page from the event.
I regret to inform everyone that the SFAMA 2009 Career & Internship Fair has been cancelled. The good news is that the SFAMA will still be hosting their Spring Mixer Thursday March 19 at the Grand Views Lounge inside the Grand Hyatt Union Square from 6:00 to 8:00pm, which is entirely free to attend! Though not a career fair, it's still a great chance to network with professionals in a sophisticated atmosphere.
Since I've been getting this question a lot, I'd like to address the fact that you can join the MA at anytime during the fall and spring semesters and your $15 membership rolls over for a whole year. Keep an eye out for events coming up in April which will be posted here and on our private iLearn account. We'll be having two guest speakers and a beach cleanup planned. As always, members get first priority and perks in RSVPing for events, so being a member of the MA pays off. Check back soon, and good luck on midterms.

March Events February 25 2009
The spring semester has already kicked into full gear with midterms! Good luck everyone! Here are some fun MA events coming up.
Tonight is the deadline for to RSVP for the San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank Tour Wednesday, March 4. This even is only open to current MA members and we have only a few spots left in our group of 15 students. The tour begins at 1:30pm though we'll all meet at BUS 137 at 12:30pm the day of and take MUNI as a group. The tour lasts 90 minutes and it will be followed by a 60 minute financial consultation (who says marketing students aren't good with numbers?). You can find more details on iLearn.
Thursday, March 5 we have a Bowling Night Social at Serra Bowl in Daly City. Meet us at the Pub in Caesar Chavez at 8:15pm (We’ll leave 9pm SHARP) and provide a carpool, just give us a number to expect. Please RSVP on iLearn or check us out on Facebook.
The following week we'll have the SFAMA 2009 Career & Internship Fair as mentioned below in the last update. Thursday, March 19 the SFAMA will be having a Spring Mixer 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Grand Hyatt Union Square. This is a free event, so we hope to see everyone there!
Also, thanks to all the eager students who came to our Welcome Night this past Monday. Stay tuned for more events!

Event Updates February 2 2009
I'm pleased to announce the dates for several key Marketing Association events this spring. We have a ton of great stuff in the pipeline already.
We understand that many College of Business core classes and marketing classes fall on Thursday evenings (sadly, this is why many officers and members cannot attend the SFAMA Super Bowl Ad Review), so we kept this in mind when scheduling other events. Our first collegiate chapter event will be a Welcome Night on campus Monday, February 23 from 6:30 to 7:30pm in BUS 202. This is a great chance for current and prospective members to meet the chapter, socialize over snacks and discuss what's going on in marketing today. We have an event page up on Facebook so go ahead and RSVP there and on our private Marketing Association iLearn account if you're already a member. If you're a member and don't have access to iLearn, please shoot us an email and we'll manually add you in.
Next up is the SFAMA 2009 Career & Internship Fair, put on in collaboration with San Francisco State University, Golden Gate University, University of San Francisco and, our newly added partner, Saint Mary's College. It will take place at Golden Gate University, at 235 Mission Street, Thursday, March 12 from 3:00 to 6:30pm. We decided to change the event times this year to accomodate both students who take day time and evening classes. There are still several booths available for companies who wish to network with students, even if they are not hiring at the moment. All information for students and companies is available here on the SFAMA website. Booths are both affordable and smart for companies looking to bridge the gap between their organizaiton and students by networking and beginning a lifelong relationship with impressionable graduates. It's great for their organization's image and reputation, in other words, just great PR!
Lastly, I'm ecstatic to announce the first details about the annual Marketing Graduation Ceremony. The ceremony will take place Thursday, May 21 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Towers Conference Center at SFSU. Invites will be sent out in March to marketing students who have already applied for graduation (having at least 100 units completed is one of the many criteria for graduating) and it will be mailed to the address you have on your SFSU records. We recommend guests arrive as early as 4pm to get the best choice of seating. We understand many students have to inform friends and family of the ceremony date and time so they can make travel plans accordingly and that's why we made the room reservations so early in advance. Marketing Association members will of course get a discounted ticket price (using skills learned from MKTG 443 Sales Promo), but we will announce the price and deadlines later. That's really all the details I can spare at this early regarding the graduation, so check back regularly. We, the SFSU Marketing Association, plan and fund the entire graduation on our own through fundraising during both the fall and spring semesters.
All events are now up on our Calendar page, so check it out! Don't have the time? You can always follow us on Twitter and have event updates sent to your cell via SMS. We hope to see you at our Welcome Night!

Welcome to spring 2009! January 28 2009
It seems like we've gone forever without updates! Welcome back students. We hope the California state budget cuts aren't effecting everyone too badly in relation to class availability.
Our first event of the semester is actually a professional chapter event, in fact, it's their biggest event of the year; the Annual Super Bowl Ad Review. The event will be held Thursday February 5, 2009 at CBS Interactive (formerly CNET) at 235 Second Street from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, with networking and registration during the first hour. There will be an interesting panel discussion including executives and marketing gurus from Buder Engel, Bleu Marketing Solutions, Goodby, Silverstein & Partners as they will examine how this years ads are impacted by the slowing economy and scaled back (or beefed up) advertising campaigns. Also, the San Francisco 49ers Cheerleaders will be there. This is a great networking opportunity for students; don't forget a business card! For details on the Super Bowl XLIII Ad Review or other SFAMA events, click here. Registration is $20 for student SFAMA members and $30 for student non-members.
I've updated the Officers page showing our new board for spring 2009. We have some great new additions to the team.
Keep up the great work students. We'll be hosting a Welcome Night for current, new and prospective Marketing Association members in BUS 202 during mid to late February with snacks, so stay tuned for the official date and time. Also, we'll soon announce the date, time and place of the Marketing Graduation Ceremony. Check back soon!

Mark your calendars! November 18 2008
For our end of semester celebration, the SFSUMA is invited to the SFAMA's Toys for Tots Holiday Party, brought to you in part by The Creative Group. Our professional chapter throws this event every year and it's always a success. Please bring an unwrapped toy suitable for 12-16 year olds or for babies up to one year. There will be appetizers, drinks and mixing all at the Seven Fifty Lounge inside the Financial District Hilton Thursday, December 11 6:00 to 8:00pm. Click the "REGISTER NOW" link on the SFAMA webpage to RSVP for the event to guarantee entry, otherwise bring cash to pay the regisration fee at the door, though the student price at the door has not been finalized. Our club will be meeting at the business building at 5pm the day of the event for a carpool from SFSU. Please dress professionally and bring a business card or polished resume; many of our student members have been offered jobs and internships on the spot while attending events like these. This opportunity to network with so many marketing professionals at an annual event like this is incredible.
With the current economic climate and lack of entry level jobs available, business students, and graduating seniors especially, cannot afford to miss this event. Don't be shy, this will be many of our officers first SFAMA event as well. With that said, I encourage everyone to attend.
I wish everyone a great, stress-free and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday next week.

2nd Members Meeting Coming Soon October 22 2008
Just after Halloween is our 2nd Members Meeting and for the first time ever, we’re hosting the speaker at the downtown SFSU campus where all the MBA courses are taught. Mark your calendars Monday November 3, 2008 5:00 to 6:15pm in room 597 at the Downtown SFSU Campus. We’ve invited Gus Sinks, Director of Business Development, of the Better Business Bureau. You may RSVP with us on iLearn and/or on Facebook. For this event we’ll be joined by the Graduate Business Association and the Women in Business Club. All MBA courses are facilitated at the Downtown SFSU Campus so we thought we should have an event down there since the graduate clubs would probably like to join us and a lot of business students work off Market Street and that campus is conveniently located within the Westfield Centre. Click here to see a flyer for this event.
Hope to see you there!

1st Members Meeting Next Week October 3 2008
Hello marketers! We've been busy at work lining up the rest of the events for the remainder of the semester and we have a nice surprise in the pipeline for early December. No details can be spilled just yet, but we may ask you to soon fill out a short questionnaire to see what our members really want. If you have any fresh, new ideas, please send them our way. We're also looking for new officers to add to our board so we can expand and we strongly encourage underclassmen to inquire and apply for a position either this fall or next spring. You'll gain a lot of experience in time management and communication skills as well as plenty of hands-on work in teams, all of which are essential skills for working in the marketing industry and are of course strong points on any resume. Send us an email if you're at all curious or interested.
Our next event is our 1st Members Meeting with two guest speakers. It's next week Wednesday, October 8th 6:00pm - 8:00pm in BUS 202. Our speakers are from Amazing Tech Products, a new internet startup company that reviews and showcases new cutting edge and quirky tech gadgets. We're fortunate enough to have both CEO Keith Washo and Marketing Manager Dewey Rogge to come and speak for us. Feel free to RSVP here on our Facebook page. Be sure to have plenty of questions ready for them and arrive promptly at 6:00pm to get a good seat.
The day after our 1st Members Meeting there's a SFAMA event on Social Media at Adaptive Path at 363 Brannan Street in San Francisco. It's Thursday, October 9th 6:00pm - 8:30pm. and their guest speaker is Chris Heuer, founder of the Social Media Club. This is a San Francisco professional chapter event so let's go represent SF State and knock their socks off!
Lastly, in order to keep up with emerging channels of communication and marketing, I've made a Twitter account for the SFSUMA. Twitter gives you a live feed of updates your friends make as to what they're doing, working on or thinking about. You can follow friends, newspapers, companies, famous professionals, celebrities, athletes and even politicians. You can follow us and get immediate updates to your cell phone or email to see what we're up to just as you can also text updates back to Twitter, and they of course have an iPhone App. Twitter is a big player in the new Web 2.0 craze of social networking websites and San Francisco seems to be a major hub of the action; Twitter's Headquarter office is in SoMA. Hopefully one day we'll get to work with them.

Our first Social is quickly approaching Septmeber 10 2008
Thanks to everyone who helped out, attended and bought food at our fundraiser BBQ last week on the Quad. Also, congratulations to AJ Cessario, our $50 gift card raffle winner!
One week from today we're hosting our first social of the semester -- the Speed Bingo Mixer. It's Wednesday Sepetmber 17 7pm - 8:30pm on the SFSU campus in BUS 202. This will be a great chance to match some faces to the names we see on iLearn and maybe met momentarily at our information booth and BBQ last week. We'll have refreshments, of course. Please RSVP here on our Facebook page.
Please contact Ben via iLearn if you would like to volunteer with the mixer. We strongly encourage any curious freshmen or new students to attend, regardless of your major. It's going to be a fun night.
Wednesday nights don't work for you? Check our calendar page for plenty of event updates!

Welcome to fall 2008! August 26 2008
Welcome back returning SFSU students, new transfers and, most of all, new incoming freshmen! I hope your summer vacations were all prodcutive yet fun.
As you adjust to new class schedules, we have a Kick Off BBQ already planned for students to enjoy. We'll be out on the SFSU Quad by Malcolm X Plaza Thursday September 4 11am - 2pm. We'll be selling a lunch combo of a cheeseburger, chips and a drink for $5. Any members who renew or new students who join the MA will be entered in a raffle for a $50 gift card of your choice for either gas, BART or MUNI. Raffle tickets will be issued out beginning Monday September 2 at our information booth on the ground floor of the business building 10am - 2pm. We'll continue with the table Wednesday, and wrap up the issuing of raffle tickets with the final raffle drawing at the Kick Off BBQ. Check out the flyer below.
If you're a current MA member and you do not have access to our iLearn account, please contact us. We'll be using iLearn a lot more this fall to post exclusive intern, scholarship and job opportunities. You'll also recieve email updates of message board posts and modifications to our event calendar.
We'll also be tracking volunteer hours this semester and will be giving out a prize to the most active MA member. Details to come soon.
I hope to see you all at the BBQ!

Summer Updates June 24 2008
Hey everyone! I hope your summer vacations are off to a great start. Our site won't have any major updates, but keep and eye out for announcements for dates; we have many good things planned for fall. Something big is coming in December and I'm having a hard time keeping it a surprise, but trust me it will be worth it.
I've updated the officers page too since we have a few new teammates! There are still some open positions left, so we encourage everyone to apply.
Enjoy the sun!

Spring Activities Are Well Underway April 10 2008
