CAUGHT ON TAPE! The people quoted on this page completed the Speech 150 (Fundamental Oral Communication) course with Dr. Merrigan in July, 2000. They were "caught on tape" during their Round II speeches. Here's what they had to say about the experience:
'Um' is a phrase that should be eradicated from the human body. I guess I'm culturally programmed not to leave 'dead air'. ...not only did I have to see myself on camera, but I had to watch myself give a speech on camera. Surprisingly, it wasn't nearly as bad as I had anticipated.
I was honestly annoyed with myself…. I can only stress to myself once again that preparation is extremely vital. I spoke and acted like one-stop express trains even though I paused at the end of every sentence; I should speak like the local line - stopping at appropriate points…. I began behind the desk and podium, frigid…but safe from the audience, holding on to the podium for dear life!
