Personal Statement

I feel like I've had a long journey since starting my master's degree at San Francisco State University. The Public Administration program has catapulted my skills and confidence in the non-profit sector.

One notable benefit of the program was the teaching method. Each class placed you in a hypothetical situation in an organization, where you need to be the agent for change. This is critical to learning how an organization works. I have had the opportunity to work on projects that teach skills of knowing how to observe and analyze human, material, and financial resources.

I also learned the benefits of informal relationships by learning from critiques and building on communication and partnerships with other classmates, which is essential for the workplace. Group projects further instilled the values of team work and collaboration.

Among the many projects I’ve been fortunate to take on included a presentation to the Civil Service Commission of the City of San Francisco, a research study on the relationship effects of combat exposure on veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, and a program evaluation for Our Second Home, a non-profit providing early childhood education services in Daly City.

I have taken a full-time position at my current workplace in the policy department. I look forward to contributing the knowledge and skills I’ve learned thus far, and hope to continue learning and expanding my skill set in the workplace. I look forward to being an agent for social change in a results-driven organization.
