Knowledge of Public Administration
The
public and nonprofit sectors are deeply rooted in the
Democratic ideals of equity and equality.
In our respective organizations we strive to provide
services to the disenfranchised, to advocate for those
without a voice, and to provide public goods, all the
while confronting organizational and financial
challenges that are unique to the public and nonprofit
sectors.
In the face of limited resources, both financial and human, I feel that it’s important for public administrators to have an understanding of merit based human resource systems, public/private partnerships, organizational behavior, public vs. private management, and nonprofit and public sector financial management. The basic knowledge of these concepts goes a long way, when trying to implement systems that will allow nonprofit and public agencies meet their mission in a more efficient and effective manner.
