ADDING BIOLOGY 230 in FALL 2009

We are sorry that you were not able to enroll in BIOL 230. In the past, we have been able to accommodate most students. Because of the current budget crisis, we anticipate that a significant number of you will not be able to enroll this semester (we are as disappointed and outraged by this as you are). Nonetheless, here are some steps to take that will help improve your chances of enrolling:

1) Be sure to go to lecture on the first day lecture meets so that you do not miss any information about the class or the first lecture.

2) Plan to attend the lab section in which you most want to enroll. Stay for the full lab period, take the diagnostic quiz and complete all the lab activities. You will have an opportunity to fill out an add petition and submit it to the instructor.

3) If there are several lab sections that would fit your schedule, plan to go to ALL lab sections that fit your needs and fill out an ADD PETITION. These are only available in the lab on the first day the lab meets (Th, Aug 27 or Fri, Aug 28); this will get you on the wait list for desired lab sections. You must fill out and submit a SEPARATE add petition DIRECTLY to the lab instructor for EACH section for which you would like to be wait listed. You may want to fill in a petition and photocopy it if there are many sections that fit your schedule. Please be courteous if you are dropping off a petition when a lab section is meeting and do not interrupt the instructor. You do not need to stay for the lab activity if you have already completed the lab activities in another section.

This represents a bit of work on your part, but it makes it possible for the lab coordinator to quickly figure out and post adds before the next period. It also increases the probability that you will get a space in some section, even if we can't get you into your first choice.

4) If you don't get in and simply can't afford to wait any longer, you might consider taking the course at CCSF or another Junior College. Just check with an advisor or on the web site ( <http://www.assist.org/web-assist/welcome.html>http://www.assist.org/web-assist/welcome.html) to make sure the course at the JC is equivalent to BIOL 230 here.
