Personal Statement
The MPA program in the past two years has given me the opportunity to connect social/environmental issues with progressive methods for implementing change. In learning subjects like public/nonprofit budgeting, policy analysis, organizational behavior, leadership, research methods, and others I gained the tools necessary to act as a responsible and efficient public servant. Also, during this time I was also able to mold my educational experience with my personal interests.
As an avid gardener, my interests usually steer me to outdoor issues. In my research I studied public tree nurseries, CSA farms and land use, non-profits and organic farming, and water treatment issues. Below, is an example of a very small-scale farm that I created in my urban back yard.

With this degree I plan to seek nonprofit positions that address social and environmental issues. However, I do not wish to feed into corporate and unsustainable systems that enhance these problems. Therefore, I will strive to create a self-sufficient lifestyle for myself, setting an example for others to do the same. My intentions are not to work in an office my entire life. Ironically, at times I will have to seek the outdoors like an animal seeks out shelter.
