Professional Skills

Professional skills are crucial in order for public administrators to be able to accomplish their work. Public administrators must have conceptual skills (ability to think abstractly), technical skills (expert knowledge), and human skills (ability to work with people). One of the objectives of SFSU’s MPA program is to help students “develop the essential professional skills necessary to succeed in public service.” During my course of study in the MPA program at SFSU, I have mastered the following professional skills: research, budgeting, public policy analysis, human resource management, and program evaluation skills.
