Team Work/Leadership

Teamwork and collaboration has been a constant theme within the program, with many classes culminating in a group project. Below are two significant projects.

Barriers to Alternative Development

A research project conducted with classmate and Executive Director of the San Francisco Chapter of the Urban Land Institute Kate White, our study attempted to identify the barriers that exist to constructing alternative development projects in urban settings. Though more research is needed, throught statisitcal analysis of surveys completed by real estate developers in the San Francisco Bay Area, we determined that the opinion of what a particular developer thought was a barrier to alternative projects had little bearing on their pursuit of such projects. Rather, the developers respond to market demand and engage in alternative development with little regard to their opinion on the matter.

Proposal to Conduct a Social Services Needs Assessment

I led a cadre of students in the development of a needs assessment proposal for the coastside non-profit Coastside Hope to determine the appropriate level of service for low-income residents living within the coastside communities of San Mateo County.
