Presentation Skills

The development of presentation skills has been integrated throughout the MPA program. Often done in teams, many of the class presentations discussed a major class project or policy assignment where the goal of the presentation was too explain a relatively complex topic clearly to an audience liklely lacking that particular experience.

Posted below are two examples of some of the many presentations I have given. The first is an overview of a mock budget proposal for the Human Services Department of San Mateo County. It outlines the general scope of the budget and highlights specific elements an elected official, such as a county supervisor, might be interested in.

The second example is simply an outline of a debate conducted in a Lincoln-Douglas format where each opposing speaker is given time to present a thesis to the audience and them time is alloted for rebutals and redirects. This particular debate centers on whether San Francisco should increase the number of apartment buildings allowed to convert to a condominium.
