Personal Statement

Janet

  Welcome to my ePortfolio!

I was born in Hong Kong, China.  My career began when I graduated with a degree in Speech Communication in 1999.  After working for several years in the financial sector, I decided that I wanted to change my career path toward something that I felt could offer me more opportunities to give back to the community.

The Master’s Program of Public Administration (MPA) at San Francisco State University has prepared me to do just that.  Not only have I gained valuable knowledge in policy analysis, program evaluation, and finance, but I have also learned equally important “soft skills” such as human resource management, communication, and organizational behavior.  I have highlighted some of my more interesting analyses over the course of my academic career in the five links on the left side of this page: Knowledge of Public Administration, Professional Skills, Writing Skills, Presentation Skills, and Team Work/Leadership.  Please feel free to peruse over them.  My primary career objective is to obtain a position as a program manager in a public sector agency.

One of my favorite quotes is from Helen Keller: “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched.  They must be felt with the heart.”  This quote is at the heart of my motivation to work in the public sector.  With the skills gained from my MPA experience and the motivation to give back to the community, I look forward to begin a new career path in the public sector.
