J667 Civic Journalism

Program still in Development.

This course fulfills the advance writing requirement for journalism majors. The course will provide students with first hand experience in civic journalism practices, which include collaboration with community members to establish strategies for news coverage. Students will hone their reporting skills, particularly working with community members who have long felt alienated by the democratic process, and may have a hard time trusting media establishments. Students will work in teams as they gather stories, publish them on the Web and in a neighborhood newspaper.
