What Is a Protege?

adrian.jpg

The FSMP defines a protege as a student who, through the mentoring of faculty, upper-division, and graduate students, is assisted towards successful academic achievement. The protege population consists of first-time freshmen and lower-division transfer students from a variety of ethnic backgrounds who experience socio-economic, academic, and personal challenges.

Proteges involved in the FSMP also participate, or have participated, in on-campus programs such as Step-to-College, EOP, and Summer Bridge.

With the assistance of faculty and student mentors, proteges become accustomed to university life and learn to take advantage of the campus resources that help them become academically successful.
