 #1 –  The SF State Strike - Lessons [due Thurs 2/21/01]
What were the motivations for the SF State Student Strike of 1968/69?  Use readings and class discussions for examples.

To what extent do you think the students were successful in achieving their goals?  Explain.

What do you feel is the major lesson we have learned from the strike and its aftermath?  Explain.


# 2 – Asian Immigration today and tomorrow [Due March 20]

Drawing from Chapters 5-7 and Chapter 2 (Omatsu's "The Four Prisons") answer question number 4 on page 229 of the course text book.
To what extent will Asian immigrants continue to enter the United States in the twenty-first century?  Drawing on evidence presented by the authors, make a case that Asian immigration to the United States will continue at a steady rate, slow down significantly, or halt altogether.  What factors might promote Asian immigration in the next decade or two, and what factors might stem its tide?

#4 & 5 -2 Community Events[due 4/19 and 5/10 ]

 Attend  2 programs, rallies or events during the spring semester organized by community-based organizations or student groups that deal with an issue impacting Asian Americans.

For each event, discuss the “point of view” or political perspective of the organizers of the event.Briefly describe the program or event.Using concepts discussed in ETHS 220 explain how the event and the organization involved contributes to “social change” in the Asian American community.
