Background research:
Review text readings on elections, political participation and voting rights and notes from class discussions.
Read the SF Nov. 6, 2001 Ballot.  www.sfgov.org/election or SmartVoter Website.  You can also search for the various campaign offices for more info on ballot measures and candidates.  Try to understand what each initiative will do if passed; and who supports and opposes it.

1. Discuss barriers to Asian American political empowerment – historically and today.  You may use class discussions and your own experiences.

2. Explain how mass media propaganda operates in political campaigns using the SF Public Power initiatives Prop F & I as an example.  You need to show you understand the forces behind props F & I and the powerful corporate interests who are against the passage of Props F & I.

3. How is this local issue [public power] an example of corporate domination of the electoral process as one of the barriers to Asian American political empowerment?  Explain.
