Undergraduate Mentoring in Quantitative Environmental Biology (UBM)

A 2-year program for Sophomores*, Juniors*, and Graduate Students in Biology and Mathematics

Applications are being accepted to begin program in Summer of 2008

Purpose: To encourage students in biology and mathematics to pursue careers in environmental biology via involvement in research and group activities that provide information on career opportunities. This program is designed to serve *Sophomores and *Juniors in Biology and Mathematics-students who are two or three years from graduation.

Financial Support: $10,000 Stipend per year (support continues for 2 years)

Program Activities: Involvement in research in a faculty member’s lab

Summer Course in the Sierras on Field Methods in Ecology, Speakers Series, Travel and participation in regional and national scientific meetings

Application Deadline May 2, 2008

1. Complete the "Applicant Profile" form. (Undergraduate) (Graduate)

2. Write a 1-2 page "Statement of Purpose" describing your career goals and interests.

3. Request at least 2 (no more than 3) letters of recommendation from science faculty that address your potential for graduate study or a career in environmental biology.

4. Complete the "All Science Transcript Form" (Transcript Form)
5. Provide unofficial copies of transcript(s)
6. Applications may be delivered to the main office of the Department of Biology (Franciscan Building) or to the main office of the Department of Mathematics (Thornton Hall Rm. 937).
