Bio:

Dr. Darlene Yee-Melichar is Professor and Coordinator of Gerontology in the School of Public Affairs & Civic Engagement in the College of Health & Social Sciences at San Francisco State University. 

As Director of Long-Term Care Administration, she coordinates extramural funding for six campus programs/student scholarships housed in the University Corporation, SF State.  As a SF State Scholars Coordinator, she advises students on blended programs in Gerontology with Social Work as well as with Sociology.

Professor Yee-Melichar teaches classes in aging processes and theories, ethical and legal issues in aging, long-term care administration, research methods in gerontology, and gerontology internship and culminating experience courses. 

Her current research interests include healthy aging, long-term care administration, minority women’s health, and safety research and education; she has published widely on these topics reflected in 6 books, 109 journal articles, book chapters, book reviews, technical reports, and presented numerous professional and scholarly papers. 

Dr. Yee-Melichar is active in the community, the profession and the University at the campus, system and intersegmental levels; she is the recipient of many awards and honors for her teaching excellence and service contributions.
