New 1/21/98 New "Urban Forum" course for Spring. The Urban Studies Program will be offering an exciting new course series. Beginning in Spring, 1998 we plan to periodically offer a new Urban Forum course in partnership with the SFSU Urban Institute. A series of forums will be organized around important topics. Civic leaders will meet with faculty and students to design a research agenda and then students will participate in on-going discussions with the civic leaders, take part in a seminar exploring civic issues, and do applied research for community organizations. Each form will be paired with an existing Urban Studies course. CSU distinguished professor Tom Ehrlich -- former director of the U.S. Legal Services Corporation, U.S. AID, and President of the University of Indiana -- will be designing and teaching the first forum course Urban Forum: Housing and Community Development this spring. Lori Bamberger, former deputy chief of staff for legislation at HUD Washington will be assisting him. Space in URBS 475 is still available. For further information check out the URBS 475 homepage or e-mail Tom Ehrlich or Lori Bamberger.

New 1/21/98 New blinds planned for the URBS/PLSI student room (HSS 268). Last year a bi-departmental faculty/student committee worked hard to improve the layout of this great resource. Over the summer mounted posters, a new rug, new furniture, and other improvements were completed. PLSI and URBS have just allocated funds to replace the (miserable) blinds in the room. Make use of HSS 268 to meet for class projects, chat with other majors, and take advantage of various room resources.
