This site was specially created for the Office of University Partnerships to demonstrate some recent work Richard LeGates, a Professor of Urban Studies at San Francisco State University has been doing related to housing and community development information management. The purpose of the site is to suggest some specific ways in which a national Community Outreach Partnership Information Effort might connect COPCs. In addition to the very useful function of collecting and making available useful URLS (similar to the housing and community development sites listed below) a COPC site could have chat room(s), use online forms and dynamic databases, make portable SPSS files accessible, make web-based GIS files accessible, make web-based video and other multi-media files available, and do many other things using new technology which goes way beyond merely establishing static links to COPC webs.

Example of an Online form. This link demonstrates use of an on-line form. This form directs visitors to sites related to the Bay Area Housing market, collects information from them, directs it through a form handler to a comma-delimited file which is then converted to ACCESS and SPSS file formats.  Online forms and dynamic web-based databases could be used to organize and disseminate COPC information.

Example of Form Results This link shows results from an October session using the form by SFSU students. It illustrates how information entered into a form from anywhere in the world can be reformatted and results made available on the web. COPC recipients could fill out information on their programs and what they have to offer to others, the data could be organized and made available. Lots more could be done here -- hyperlinks to the sites, a searchbot so people could find the right information....

CSU SSRIC site This is a link to a new site developed with a California State University System (CSU) chancellors grant to assemble public domain portable SPSS data files and make them easily accessible. I had not part in creating this site, but it is an example of how COPC data might be made available. The files on this site are easily downloadable, fully documented SPSS files. All are public domain. Users anywhere can get them, understand their content, and use them for analysis.

Cyburbia site. This is a link to a site developed and mainted by SUNY Buffalo which has excellent planning and urban development content. I had no part in creating this site, but it is an example of how a national COPC site might make all kinds of useful data sources available.
