Global Impact Corps: Global Health Volunteer Abroad Opportunities...
(Not dental-related, but still a wonderful opportunity!)
http://www.uniteforsight.org/volunteer-abroad
Unite For Sight has been featured weekly on CNN International and in The New York Times
Unite For Sight is the world's leader in socially responsible, effective volunteering abroad. Unite For Sight's Global Impact Corps is an immersive global health experience for students and for professionals.
All volunteers participating in Unite For Sight's international programs are Global Impact Fellows. They participate daily with local ophthalmic nurses, local optometrists, and local ophthalmologists to eliminate patient barriers to care and to facilitate comprehensive year-round eye care for patients living in extreme poverty. Through hands-on, structured training, volunteers gain a comprehensive understanding about best practices in volunteerism, global health, and international development. Global Impact Fellows gain skills and are nurtured to become new leaders in global health. Additionally, Global Impact Fellows may participate in the Global Impact Lab, an optional program for volunteers interested in pursuing global health research.

Global Medical Brigades at SFSU...
GMB at SFSU involves undergraduate students in recruitment of health professionals and procurement of medical supplies and funds for the brigades. Our mission provides a great experience for pre-health students and an opportunity to get involved with networking, third-world issues, and volunteer work. Students will have an immersive experience while preparing for and during the trip. Hands-on experience includes setting up a temporary clinic and staffing it in multiple areas (triage, shadowing, pharmacy), as well as preventative healthcare projects.
Brigaders will participate in innovative fundraising and physician outreach efforts, and gain valuable hands-on public health and medical experience. Being an entirely student-run organization, we depend on creative, hard-working, and dedicated individuals with a sincere interest in global health and other related issues.
For more information, you can also check out the SFSU GMB website at www.gmbatsfsu.weebly.com and also the national GMB website at www.medicalbrigades.org and also, for dental-related info, at www.globalbrigades.org/project/dental/about-us/.
SFSU PDS Members - You can find the GMB presentation from our first general meeting here: Global Medical Brigades - Info Session Slides. If you are interested, make sure you apply soon to save money on your flight and to maximize fundraising time!
Orphanage Outreach is a non-profit organization working in the Dominican Republic...
Orphanage Outreach is a non-profit organization working in the Dominican Republic to provide opportunities to orphaned, abandoned, and disadvantaged children. A major need in the country is dental education and care. We would like to invite you to join us for a service trip to teach basic dental health education in Dominican classrooms and rural Dominican communities. In addition, from February 20-March 20 of 2010, we also plan to be holding dental clinics in very poor, rural communities. If you have spring break during this time, there is an opportunity for you to be involved in assisting at the clinics. We can also schedule additional clinics throughout the year, provided we have participating dentists.
"We are looking for both dental students and pre-dental students to be involved. If you are interested in receiving additional information, please reply with: * Your Name * Your School * Your Phone Number"

University of Southern California (USC) School of Dentistry DAT Prep Course...
http://uscnews.usc.edu/university/a_future_in_wellness_awaits.html
For the past three years, the USC School of Dentistry has helped several underrepresented minority students make their way to dental school. A grant from the California Wellness Foundation has allowed the USC School of Dentistry to fund Dental Admission Test preparation classes as well as application process enrichment activities and scholarships for dental students.
We are trying to contact under-represented- minority (URM) pre-dental students from the greater Los Angeles area and its surrounding counties who are ready to attempt the Dental Aptitude Test (DAT). Students need to have completed two semesters of general chemistry, two semesters of biology, and two semesters of organic chemistry.
Grant funds allow us to purchase Kaplan DAT Prep course of qualified URM students. Classes are offered in several areas throughout California. Please click on the link above, for student testimonies.
The program is funded through the spring of 2010 and will be assisting students until then.
