COLDWAVE HISTORY

In 1978, the interest in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was there but there was no charted undergraduate chapter in San Francisco. So Brother who attended San Francisco State university had to go Stanford Univerty in Palo Alto to become a member of this prestigiuos organization. In the Fall of 1978, Bro. Marc A. Dobson, Bro. James Duvall, Bro. Walter Lovely, Jr., Bro. Lonnie S. Holmes, and Bro. James G. Hunt were initiated through Nu Sigma Chapter. This meant that Alpha's were present at San Francisco State University but still no charted chapter. In the winter on 1979, three more San Francisco State students were initiated into the fraternity through Nu Sigma, Bro. Tony Mc Donald, Bro. Kevin Newsome and Bro. Victor Payne.

In 1980, Alpha's presence at state became so dominant, that it was time to form it's on chapter. Xi Rho chapter was founded and established at state May 14, 1980 and Bro. Anthony Map was the first solo Brother to cross Thee COLDWAVE! Thereafter, the Coldwave was an full effect. From spring of 1980 up to present day, Brothers have been initiated into Xi Rho. Since 1980, the Brothers of the Coldwave have been heavily involved in community service with voter registration, mentorship, tutoring and fund raising for community oriented organizations.
