Even in the cold of winter,
sunlight can still provide reliable, inexpensive power:
Generate electric power.
Photovoltaic cells will still work with limited sunlight, although they will
generate less power.
Heat water for home and
commercial use. Often only a few hours of sunlight are enough to supply enough
heat for a home's hot water usage.
Solar light tubes can
illuminate homes during the day. They are designed to handle sunlight at low
angles.
Windows can be designed
to let the limited sunlight of winter heat and light up homes. Frank Lloyd
Wright homes have roofs which overhang windows in order to let in the desirable
low rays of winter sunlight while blocking out undesirable summer sunlight.
Passive heat blocks can
store winter sunlight to heat homes all night.
Bring out your photovoltaic
panels, solar water heaters and passive designs, and tell everyone you know
that solar power isn't just a "fair-weather" energy source!
