Personal Statement
I have worked in a variety
of fields including
property
management, a multinational credit card company, and a non-profit
mental health agency. Currently, I work in higher education. I
chose to embark on an MPA degree because I felt it would
a way to blend my undergraduate degree in anthropology and the business
of running government.
The MPA allowed me to explore my interests in human resources,
organizational management, diversity issues and urban
administration. It
also gave me an opportunity to explore new areas such as budgeting,
economics, and policy analysis. The MPA allowed me to complete a
research project on employee satisfaction,
the
results of which I presented to colleagues.
I feel that the MPA program has given me both a theoretical and
practical exposure. Throughout the program I was challenged to
problem solve real government issues such as affirmative action, public
health issues, urban planning issues amongst others. I have
already put these skills to use in my current position. When
issues arise, I am able to step back and analyze the issue from a
variety of perspectives.
