Career Objectives
The renowned Hospitality Managment Program at SFSU has expanded my interests in this field and I now have several goals for my career future, and the following discuss my ambitions for working in the hospitality industry:
Wine Bar and Food Pairing: While working at Tastes Wine Bar & Restaurant, located in Southern California, I discovered the magic that can permeate the atmosphere when delicious food is appropriately matched with an equivalent wine. This vocation inspired me to choose a concentration in Restuarant and Foodservice Managment in hopes that one day I will manage a high quality wine and food-pairing restaurant. So far, I have learned an immense amount of information that will help me in each aspect of managing a business and I aim to to apply this knowledge someday soon.
The Grapevine: Another dream I have always wished to explore is to develop and manage my own vineyard. I have always had an interest in science, and I may return to school to receive a degree in viticulture or enology. I plan to travel to Europe, particularly France, to live and work for three-six months in order to get to the roots of European grapes and will possibly take that experience and build my own grapevine. To read and learn more about viticulture and enology, check out the following website for articles on this topic: American Journal of Enology and Viticulture.
Hotels: The education I have received within the Hospitality Management program has focused on hotels as well as restaurants, and has shown me the diverse opportunities available in this concentration. Initially, I envisioned myself working in a management position in the restaurant business five years or less from my graduation without any other aspirations in this field. Now that I have broadened my work experience into the hotel industry and acquired pristine education in this subject, I have grown to find another niche where I may find myself successfully contributing to. The hotel industry offers a variety of jobs that I find interesting and fun including: human resources, banquets and catering, spa and fitness, and food and beverage. I will strive to incorporate each of these three career objectives into my future because I believe their individual structures will help me develop a strong, mulitfaceted perspective which will direct me to success in the hospitality field.
