Personal Statement
I graduated with a B.A. in Economics from Sonoma State University. For a few years following acquiring my undergraduate, degree I worked for various for profit organizations in the marketing field. However, I found myself feeling unfulfilled in my career. At one point I ended up working for a non-profit organization and realized that I wanted to pursue a career in non-profit work or public service. I then applied for the MPA program at S.F. State.
The MPA program has helped me to improve my research, critical thinking and analytical skills. I appreciate the opportunity the program has offered me to gain knowledge on a variety of topics including public policy, budgeting, management, leadership and statistical analysis. Working in teams, developing presentations and being given the chance to work on developing solutions for Bay Area based non-profit organizations has also provided me with an invaluable experience.
I hope to continue with my career pursuits in public service or non-profit work upon graduation. Specifically, I hope to focus on research, strategic planning and program management related to issues of poverty and healthcare.
