Writing Skills
The MPA program helped me to develop a succinct writing style. It is important to ensure one’s writing is not only communicated clearly, but also in a concise manner to allow for quick evaluation. Public administrators simply do not have the time to read drawn out explanations.
The following two examples illustrate this ability to compose a clear and concise memorandum. The first is a short memorandum, sampled from my course in Urban Administration, outlining the method of budgeting for the City of Dallas. The second outlines a recommendation for a human resources policy proposal relating to the use of assessment centers in the selection of first-line supervisors.
