Personal Statement
I graduated from UC Berkeley in 1994 with a B.A. in
Anthropology and completed my Masters in Public Administration at San
Francisco State University in December 2008.
I began my professional career with the University of California,
Berkeley in 1993. A student work-study
position in led to my first position as a Student Affairs Officer for
an academic department. In that position
I assumed responsibility for all aspects of student and curricular
affairs: advising, scheduling and admissions.
In March of 2000 I accepted the position of Admissions Coordinator for
the UCSF School of Pharmacy. In addition
to administering the annual admissions process of the Doctor of
Pharmacy (PharmD) program for 7 years, I was an original member of the
Advisory Panel of the Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS)
for 4 years. This panel was responsible for designing and implementing
a nationally centralized application service for US Schools of Pharmacy. It was during this period that I entered the
MPA program at San Francisco State University and began to formulate a
personal professional development plan.
In February of 2007 I assumed my current position of Director of
Admissions for the UCSF School of Dentistry.
Having worked in higher education administration for the past 14 years,
I have found a profession that I find both challenging and rewarding. I plan to use the skills I gained in the MPA
program to secure a position in higher education administration at a
university or system level, where I hope to work on issues of access to
education for underserved and non-traditional populations.
