BECA M.A. Program
Semester by Semester Path to Degree
Key Points
- Most M.A. students who select the comprehensive exam culminating experience option should graduate in four semesters.
- M.A. students who select the thesis or creative project culminating experience option MAY complete the program in four semesters, but they commonly take five semesters.
- M.A. students typically take 3 courses per semester.
- The best place to obtain most of the forms you need as you progress through the program is the SFSU Graduate Studies Current Forms page.
- SFSU graduate forms need to be typed, so print them AFTER you have filled in the information.
- Plan ahead. Required faculty may not be available to sign your forms on the day of the deadline.
- Make copies of signed forms and keep them somewhere you can find them.
- In many cases, the BECA graduate coordinator can sign as both your adviser AND graduate coordinator.
- SFSU requires an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher for MA candidates to graduate. If you wish to take extra classes during your time at SFSU, you should consider taking the classes credit/no credit, so you don't risk lowering your GPA. Students whose GPA falls below 3.0 will be put on academic probation. These GPA calculators can be used to determine what students need to do to raise their GPA.
