Step Two: Apply to the BECA Department
A complete department application will include the following:
-
BECA Graduate Application Form. The BECA Department application forms can be obtained at the department web site (http://beca.sfsu.edu/). You may also obtain an application via e-mail (becagrad@sfsu.edu) or by writing to the BECA Graduate Office.
Three letters of recommendation with cover form. A separate cover form must be completed and signed by the recommender and attached to each of the recommendation letters with the writer's signature across the flap of the envelope. The cover form is included with the BECA Graduate Application Form. The department prefers that these letters be from former professors who know your university level work and can predict your success in a graduate program. Personal references, however, may be submitted if you cannot obtain letters from former teachers. Recommenders should be able to comment on your work habits, writing ability, and other characteristics that would reflect on your ability to succeed in the program.
All College/University transcripts. You should provide the department with official OR unofficial transcripts for all university level coursework you have completed. Please be aware that the BECA department does NOT receive transcripts sent to the SFSU Graduate Admissions Office. Therefore, you need to send a copy separately to the BECA department.
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores and TOEFL and TWE scores. All students who apply to the BECA MA program must take the GRE..The department requires a minimum GRE Analytical Writing score of 4.5. SFSU also requires that students whose undergraduate degree was earned from an institution where instruction was in a language other than English should take the TOEFL and the TWE.
Statement of Purpose. This is a 500 word essay. Details can be found in the BECA Graduate Application form.
All of your application material must be submitted to the BECA Graduate Office by the deadline at the following address:
