ARCHAEOLOGICAL INSTITUTE OF AMERICA

SAN FRANCISCO SOCIETY

ABOUT THE AIA

The Archaeological Institute of America is a non-profit cultural and educational organization with more than 10,000 members worldwide. Founded over a century ago, it is the oldest and largest archaeological organization in North America, dedicated to encouraging and supporting archaeological research and to preserving the world's cultural heritage. Members of the AIA have conducted fieldwork in Africa, Asia, Europe and North and South America.

Each member of the AIA is encouraged to belong to one of the 87 local societies in the US or the six affiliates in Canada, which sponsor lectures, field trips, films and museum visits. The local societies provide an opportunity for people in the local community who are interested in archaeology to meet one another and to learn about recent discoveries and new interpretations in archaeology around the world.

For information about membership, visit the AIA Home Page at the headquarters of the Archaeological Institute of America, located at Boston University. To learn more about AIA publications, read the Web pages of the American Journal of Archaeology, maintained at the University of Michigan, and of Archaeology Magazine.
