This program is designed jointly between the faculty and staff of Prescott Elementary in Oakland Unified School District and the Department of Elementary Education at San Francisco State University.

A multiple subject credential program for students interested in working in Oakland and communities with populations similar to that of West Oakland. It is a site based program that will

• Hold classes at Prescott Elementary
• Have early and directed field experiences
• Have ongoing collaboration with faculty and staff at the school site
• Year round program

It is designed to:

• Develop teachers who are culturally competent, with special emphasis on teaching African American and other children of color.
• Prepare teachers at a site where all stakeholders are developing and transforming (Hilliard, 1996) their skills and praxis for excellence.
• Develop committed professionals who take the responsibility to do whatever it takes to educate and meet the needs of those children.

The Program will have an orientation week August 12-16. During this week students will attend the CACSEA conference as part of their Fall, 2002 coursework.
