AND (Asian Neighborhood Design) Description: Asian Neighborhood Design was incorporated in 1973 as a California non-profit corporation by a group of Asian American UC Berkeley students who were determined to improve the environment in low-income housing and community spaces in Asian neighborhoods. Five years later, A.N.D. expanded its services to employment needs by offering job training in carpentry and cabinetmaking. Today, A.N.D. provides community development and family and youth services in addition to architecture and job training. Cameron House Description: Cameron House is a Chinatown-based multi-service agency serving Asian communities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Motivated by our Christian commitment to promote healthy communities, we have served individuals, immigrant families and youth since 1874. 3. CARA (Cambodian American Resource Agency) Description: The Cambodian American Resource Agency (CARA) was founded in 1998 by a group of Cambodian-American professionals and community members who had a deep interest in the advancement of the local Khmer community. The mission of CARA is to help initiate and provide support for community-based events involving the Khmer community in order to increase recognition and raise awareness of the Khmer culture. (CCDI) is a grassroots, volunteer-based organization founded by a group of concerned community activists in 1997. CCDI assists Cambodian refugees in Oakland, CA in overcoming social, cultural and economic barriers to reach independence and self-sufficiency. Currently, the agency serves approximately 500-1,000 refugees per year in one or more of its programs. Since its founding, CCDI has developed its capacity to meet the many needs of the Cambodian community by making creative and efficient use of very limited staffing and funding. The agency involves the community in every aspect of its services, from developing program ideas and evaluating program effectiveness to serving as tutors and direct service providers. SHE (Self Help For the Elderly) Description: Originally created as a “War On Poverty” program, Self-Help for the Elderly began serving seniors in San Francisco's Chinatown community in 1966.
